Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 26, 2026
Cohort Atlas (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the cohortatlas.com website and the Cohort Atlas Operator Console (collectively, the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use the Service.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account Information
When you sign in via Google OAuth, we receive your name, email address, and Google profile identifier. We do not receive or store your Google password.
1.2 Operator-Submitted Data
If you are an enrolled truck stop operator, you may voluntarily submit operational data such as monthly diesel gallons sold, DEF volumes, and convenience store transaction counts. This data is used solely to calibrate and improve our traffic estimation models for your site.
1.3 Mobility Data (Non-Personal)
Our traffic intelligence products are built from anonymized, aggregated GPS observations licensed from third-party data providers. This data arrives pre-aggregated at the geographic zone level and does not contain individual device identifiers, names, phone numbers, or any information that could identify a specific person or device. We do not collect, purchase, or process raw individual-level location data.
1.4 Usage and Technical Data
We automatically collect standard web server logs including IP address, browser type, pages visited, and timestamps. This data is used for security monitoring, debugging, and aggregate analytics.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Authenticate your identity and manage your account
- Generate site-level traffic and diesel volume estimates
- Calibrate models using operator-submitted data
- Produce anonymized competitive benchmarks (never identifying individual competitors)
- Communicate with you about your account or the Service
- Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, or security incidents
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only in these circumstances:
- Anonymized Benchmarks: Competitive market snapshots shown to operators use aggregated, anonymized data. Individual site performance is never disclosed to competitors. Market bands are suppressed when fewer than three competitors exist within a radius.
- Service Providers: We use third-party services for hosting (cloud infrastructure), authentication (Google OAuth), and mapping (Google Maps). These providers process data only as necessary to perform their functions and are bound by their own privacy policies.
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Cohort Atlas, our users, or the public.
4. Data Retention
Account information is retained for as long as your account is active. Operator-submitted data is retained indefinitely to support model calibration unless you request deletion. Usage logs are retained for up to 12 months. Anonymized, aggregated mobility data is retained indefinitely as it contains no personal information.
5. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Cookies
We use session cookies to maintain your authenticated state. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. Google Maps may set its own cookies when map tiles are loaded, subject to Google’s privacy policy.
7. Your Rights
You may:
- Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Withdraw consent for optional data processing
To exercise these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.
8. Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed at individuals under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have inadvertently collected such information, we will promptly delete it.
9. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from those in your jurisdiction.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email or a notice on the Service. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
